Personality & Traits
General Overview:
Julian has always taken his career in Starfleet very seriously, and that reflects in his personality. Due to his short tenure with the Starfleet Marines, before attending the Academy, he has what he considers to be a unique perspective on the various ins and outs of the different departments of Starfleet, and as such, treats any non-com or officer he comes across with the degree of respect owed to their rank and position.

Strengths & Weaknesses: Julian has a wicked sense of humor, and is renowned for using that humor to diffuse difficult situations. He considers his utmost and highest duty to upholding the tenets and values of the United Federation of Planets, but there are definitely occasions when he feels it is best to skate the line between what is legal and what is morally the right thing to do.

Ambitions: Julian's primary ambition is to serve the Federation and protect and uphold the Prime Directive. Secondary ambitions would be to command a Starfleet Vessel.

Hobbies & Interests: Julian does have a few personality quirks. He prefers food not native to Terra, and will go out of his way to program new recipes into the replicators to match his ever changing palate for pan-galactic cuisine. He is also an avid runner and hiker, and will spend most of his free time on the holo-deck, either running long distances or hiking difficult trails, encouraging his fellow crew members to join him.

Personal History
Date of Birth:
October 4, 2356

Julian's family has a long history with Starfleet. His father was in the Starfleet Marines until he was KIA, and his mother is the chief medical officer aboard an Olympic Class Starship. From the time he was a young boy, Julian knew he would be joining Starfleet. The decision was made for him, and he never thought twice about it.

When he was 10 years of age, Julian's father was KIA, as stated above. This had a profound impact on the young boy's life, and pushed him further to join the Starfleet Marines to do the memory of his father the greatest honor he could.

Schooling was never very easy for Julian. He took to the principles of what he was taught surprisingly quickly, but could never seem to get his assignments done. Many of his instructors felt that this was due to the material being either too advanced, or too easy (depending on who's opinion one listened to.) He was encouraged to take the Academy Entrance Examination, but declined, opting to enlist in the SFMC instead.

His time with the Marines was short, but taught him many things: respect, honor, discipline, and above all an undying loyalty to his fellow crew. After his year of training as a Marine, he was stationed aboard the USS Prestige, an Ambassador Class Starship, with the small marine attachment. As his specialty was tactical interdiction, and by this time the Ambassador Class was showing it's age, he didn't see much action. He did however get a feel for how life on a starship operates. He quickly got used to the ins and outs of life on ship, and enjoyed every moment he spent aboard the Prestige.

However, Julian never felt that he truly fit in as a Starfleet Marine, and certainly not an enlisted crew-member. His heart wasn't in it. Despite enlisting in the Starfleet Marines being his lifelong goal, Julian took the Academy Entrance Exam, and was enrolled in Starfleet Academy.

As Julian entered the Academy approximately 3 years older than most of it's applicants, he knew he had his work cut out for him. He was certainly more hard on himself than any of his instructors were. While he took to the bare basics of knowledge required for a Starfleet Officer remarkably well, he found he still had a love for the Security and Tactical fields. This was to be his major area of study in his tenure at the Academy.

Much of the previous difficulty with getting assignments done from his youth were gone at the Academy. He devoured his work seeming to want to learn everything he could in the shortest time possible. It was still a struggle for him, and the four years there were by no means easy. When the time came to take his Mid-Shipmans apprenticeship aboard a Starship, he was assigned once again to the U.S.S. Prestige. His former crew members were happy to see him again, and he quickly re-adjusted to life aboard a Starship, after being away for so long. His direct superior saw immediately that he had a keen eye for the field he had chosen, and recommended to his instructors that after a feeling out period once he received his commission, that he be encouraged to take Command Training.

Julian graduated from the Academy with high marks, although nowhere near the top of his class, but yet again, he was 3 years behind his fellow cadets. He knew that if he wanted to make any type of career for himself out of Starfleet, that he would have to do it quickly, and immediately became serious in proving himself to his superiors.

After his graduation, he was assigned to the USS Monitor, a Nebula Class Starship, under the command of Captain Lewis, as a Tactical and Security Officer. While Julian had very little interaction with the CO, he did receive high praise from the CTSO, and after a few months, began to take the Gamma Shift on the Bridge. From the first time he set foot on the Bridge of the Monitor, he knew his goal was to sit center chair some day. His unique sense of humor, even while on duty, did cause him to be reprimanded on occasion, but the reprimands were never serious, and only one was ever officially entered onto his record. In the 3 years he spent aboard the Monitor, he did not advance in rank, which upset him slightly. Still, he did not let this agitate him too greatly, and was constantly putting forth suggestions and changes to his superior officers on more efficient ways to perform duties, as well as unique new ideas for drills and tactical practices. While these only drew a cursory glance from the CTSO and his Assistant, the XO of the Monitor began to take notice of the hard work that Julian was attempting to put in.

The XO of the Monitor, Commander Emilie Chapel, was promoted to Captain. She approached Julian, and explained that while she couldn't offer him a chief position due to his rank, she wanted to have him aboard as an assistant. Julian jumped at the opportunity, and transferred to Chapel's new command, the USS Beagle, an Intrepid Class Starship, as the Assistant CTSTO. His superiors noticed he had a knack for leading people, and had organizational skills far beyond someone with his lack of experience in the field. After 2 months aboard the Beagle, Julian was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. This was still not enough for him, and he continued to try to out-do himself, to prove to his superiors that he was meant for more than what his position currently was. On a science vessel, this was not an easy task. The Beagle never once went into combat. However, Julian prided himself on conducting routine Security drills and Tactical Practice with those under the umbrella of his command (always with the permission of his superiors.) He was found to have a fundamental understanding of how to work with different types of individuals, as well as how to motivate his crew.

After spending one and a half years aboard the Beagle, Chapel informed him that a unique position to serve as Commanding Officer on a very small Wallace Class Starship was available, and that she had put in a recommendation for him. Julian knew nothing of the class, and rectified that immediately by devouring every scrap of information available rather than jumping into it blind. After satisfying himself that this was something he was fully capable of, and something he knew he could do with every fiber of his being he agreed, and applied to command the Wanderer.
